Scott County Firefighters Association - History & Purpose: The Association has been around since the 1980's.  It is comprised on 2 elected members and 2 alternates from each department.  Its role is to help the sister organizations in Scott County do a good job in firefighting and serving the citizens of Scott County, Virginia.  The Association has gone to the Scott County Board of Supervisors many times asking for increased funding for the departments.  A very good mutual respect exists between the Association and the BOS.  The Board realizes that we are all volunteers, and that we put our own time and effort into the safety of our county.  We help the seven departments provide fire coverage.  We try to provide expertise, fire program instructor's overheads, 'Raynger' infrared heat detection guns, and other equipment.  Currently, we are checking into thermal imaging equipment.   The Association was instrumental in the purchasing of the Pierce pumpers/tankers.

The monthly meetings are conducted at rotating sites.  The first Thursday of each month, the meeting is held at different fire stations.  Fort Blackmore VFD will host the the December, 2008 business meeting for the Association.  Since FBVFD is the 7th department, the next department [the 1st on the list] will host the meeting in January, 2009.  Nominations for officers are generally accepted in December with elections in January.  The current members of the Association are:
