Chapter 16: Rescue Sergeant

The Rescue Sergeant is appointed by the Chief Officer during Elections. The Rescue Segeant is 7th in Command under the Chief Officer. The Rescue Sergeant / Firefighter of FBVFD shall attempt to be certified in EMS-First Responder or higher through the Virginia Department of Emergency Services, as well as Firefighter I through the Virginia Department of Fire Programs. The Rescue Sergeant shall try to help each First Responder / Fire Fighter become competent in as many areas of rescue, patient care, and safety as possible. The Rescue Sergeant shall try to observe the Va. Dept. of Emergency Services documentations and protocols for EMS calls. The Rescue Sergeant shall strive to train all firefighters in First Aid / AED / Extrication, or provide training through another agency.

The Rescue Sergeant shall keep a log of what is taught to the Firefighters, who is present, and when the training took place. Notes shall be kept brief to explain what was taught and the extent to which it was taught.
